The temperature sender that is included with the Derale Temperature Gauge Kit for Transmission Oil part # D13009 can be installed on either the driver or passenger side of the transmission pan, this does not matter. However, the temperature sender needs to be clear of any exhaust and you will need to have room for the jamb nut and to fit a wrench on it so whichever side of the pan allows for this is what I recommend but it will function the same regardless.
The Derale Temperature Gauge Kit for Transmission Oil will not cool the transmission fluid so if you find the temperatures to be reaching over 200 degrees Fahrenheit then I recommend adding the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit part # D13504.
