Matching Wires From a 4 Way Connector on a Trailer to a 7 Way Adapter

Question:

what does the red color connect to? I have an adaptor with a red terminal and no yellow terminal. The trailer wires are brown tail, yellow L turn/brake, green R turn/brake and white ground

It sounds like you are using a 7-Way adapter, like part # PK12716, to connect to your 4-Way connector on your trailer. In this case the wiring is not going to match up by color except for the white ground connections. The red wire from the adapter will connect with the yellow wire on the 4-Way connector, the brown wire from the adapter will connect with the green wire from the connector and the green wire from the adapter will connect with the brown wire from the connector.

I have attached pictures of an adapter showing the connections on both ends and a table showing how connections are labeled in a 7-Way connector and what the normal trailer wiring colors are for you to use regarding these connections. If this is not the case please let me know so I can get a better understanding of the issue you are having.
