Recommended Trailer Wiring for a 2019 BMW X5 and Does the Draw-Tite Hitch 76288 Require Drilling
Question:
Hi. I ordered a 2inch hitch for my 2019 X5. Was wondering if it comes with the wiring? If not what exactly do I need to order? The description says no drilling into frame etc needed but when I look at instructions on line it looks like it may require some drilling. Can you please confirm. Anything else I may need for this usuage please let me know. I’m planning on ordering a rear box carrier from you guys but want to make sure my application is ok. Thanks.

I do have a trailer wiring harness for your 2019 BMW X5 but the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 76288 does not come with this. I recommend the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 119250KIT because this is the only option that you have that will not require splicing. It uses clamps rather than quick splicing connectors so you can revert the vehicle back to stock once they are removed. I have attached an install video on a slightly older model.
In regard to the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 76288, the only drilling that is required is to remove plastic rivets that hold trim pieces on which is not a big deal and very simple to do. There is no drilling into the body or frame so nothing will be irreversible.
For an enclosed cargo box, the Yakima EXO Swing Away Enclosed Cargo Carrier - 2" Hitches # Y62VR is an excellent, well-made option for you that swings out for access to your rear cargo area, and it is water resistant to protect your belongings inside.
