Can I Carry Hollywood Sport Rider SE2 With Thule Goalpost In Curt D-192

Question:

I have a Thule 997 goalpost t bar 25 lbs which I use to carry two kayaks on my Canyon Pickup. I plan on getting a Hollywood SE2 Hitch rack HR1450 Z-E 57 lbs to carry two electric bicycles which each weigh about 60 lbs. The goalpost would obviously go in the upper portion of the D-192. Does this seem like a good combination?

It is possible to carry both the Thule Goalpost and the Hollywood SE Hitch rack part # HLY84FR with the Curt Hitch Extender part # D-192 on the Canyon as long as you do not exceed the tongue weight of the trailer hitch or adapter and you are still able to adjust the goal post to carry the kayaks level.

The Thule Goalpost measures 7-3/8" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the upright bar and the Hollywood Sport Rider SE2 measures 7-1/2" from the hitch to the closest part of the rack so you would not have any issues with the two parts interfering with one another although the arms of the rack will be very close to the Goalpost upright bar.

The Curt Adapter is only rated for 350 lbs tongue weight so please keep in mind all of the weight on your setup is considered tongue weight so the weight of the Hollywood Rack (51 lbs) your bikes (120 lbs), Thule Goal Post (28 lbs) and the weight of your kayaks count towards the 350 lb tongue weight rating. So basically your Kayaks cannot weight more than 150 lbs.

Also please keep in mind the use of any adapter or extender cuts the tongue weight rating of the hitch in half so you do not want to exceed that amount either. However, the Class III hitches we carry for the GMC Canyon have a high tongue weight rating so you should be okay although you still want to double check on your tongue weight rating of the hitch.

You want to make sure the Goalpost will allow you to carry the Kayaks level with the Canyon's roof when you have the Goalpost in the adapter. The adapter adds 3-1/4" of height to the shortest adjustment of 54-1/2" of the Goalpost. You can test fit this by measuring vertically 56-3/4" up from the hitch pin hole to see if that goes way past the roof of the Canyon. This is will be the new height of the Goalpost so you want to make sure you will be able to put the kayaks on the Goalpost and carry them level with the roof.
