Does Friction Sway Control Need to be Disconnected When Backing Up
Question:
I wanted to make sure that I have to disconnect my fiction sway control. I have a Curt 17200 Sway Control Kit and pull a Camp Lite 21 RBS. It is a 25 foot travel trailer. When backing up do I need to disconnect it or can I simply loosen it up? Can I leave in on? Thank you

For any friction sway control, including the Curt Friction Sway Control # 17200 you have, it must be disconnected when you back up. If you don't disconnect it then the arm that slides in and out can potentially break.
I personally recommend using a sway control system that is integrated into a weight distribution (WD) system, like what you find with part # EQ37100ET, as you don't have to disconnect anything when you back up, but if you are fine with disconnecting the sway control each time you back up the friction sway control is an effective option as well.
