Trailer Brake Lights Illuminate On 2018 Ford Escape When Headlights Are Turned On
Question:
I installed a C56320 on a 2018 Ford Escape. I have used a Fluke Digital True RMS multimeter to confirm the following. I also have a extensive background in electronics. Elec Engineer. At the rear of the vehicle, where the module is mounted, I have continuity between the ground ring terminal measured specifically on the installed ring terminal, not the mounting bolt and the chassis measured on body frame after scraping through a bit of paint. I also confirm that I have +12v actually 13 ish vdc at the butt splice both when measured from chasis and measured from ring ground terminal. To my satisfaction I feel as though I have verified solid power source and ground. With the unit fully installed I get the brake light illuminating when I turn on the headlights. I get the running lights illuminating when I hit the brake pedal. I do not get any turn signals. I have confirm these both using a known good trailer and confirming at the 4 pole connector using a multimeter. I removed the left rear brake lights from car and confirm that I was providing signal to the Curt relay module from the factory wiring. I confirmed the white at the wire harness had continuity to chasis. Then I confirm that I had +12v on the Yellow wire when the headlights were on, +12v on the red wire when left turn signal on, and +12v on Brown wire when brakes depressed. I should mention that all of the vehical lights come on appropriately for each of these. In my mind, if you can confirm that this is the correct wiring yellow for headlights, red for left turn, brown for brakes then I would think that the module is failed. Could you please confirm that this is the correct wiring? Do you agree that this module is presenting itself as failed. I am open to suggestions? Thank you,

Yes, the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C56320 is correct for your 2018 Ford Escape. In order to make sure the converter box is functioning correctly, you will need to test for power on each of the wires leading into the converter box and then make sure that power is leaving on the correct wires. For example, if you turned on the headlights you should have power on the brown wire leading into the converter box but if power was then sent to either the green or yellow wires then you know this has gone bad and it will need to be replaced.
