Does the Cargo Carrier Weight Count Towards the Vehicles Cargo Weight Capacity On a Chevy Equinox

Question:

I have a 2015 Chevy Equinoz LT 4 cylinder car that says total weight capacity is 1070 lbs. Will this work when I have 5 people plus a roof top carrier and full trunk of stuff? Or will using this also exceeded my weight limit?

Expert Reply:

The weight of the cargo stored in the 23x60 etrailer Cargo Carrier part # e98874 on your 2015 Chevrolet Equinox should not count towards the vehicle's cargo weight capacity because it would be considered part of the trailer load. Therefore, so long as you are not over the vehicle's cargo weight capacity with the weight of all people and cargo including that in the cargo box and hatch then you are good to go with the above. However, you also need to be sure that the loaded weight of the vehicle with all the cargo listed above is not over the gross combined weight rating (GCWR) rating which for your Equinox is 5,787 lbs for FWD models or 5,952 lbs for AWD models but I don't think this will be an issue.
