Do All 7 Wires Need to be Connected for Hopkins Wiring Kit on 2003 Chevy Silverado
Question:
Hi, I would like to hook up your 7 and 4 connector unit to my 2003 Sliverado. Your unit is: 7-Pole and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Sockets w/ Mounting Bracket and Wiring - Vehicle End Item # HM40975-11998. The wire harness on my 2003 Silverado only has 6 wires to splice into your unit. I assume the truck is missing the blue wire for the trailer break. I do not have a trailer break. Do I just hook-up the six wires? Please let me know. Thank you,

You are correct, if you are missing one of the functions on your 2003 Chevy Silverado you don't necessarily need to use it. If it is the brake controller circuit then you simply need to cap off the blue wire for the Hopkins # HM40975-11998 that you are looking at.
I do recommend using a circuit tester like part # PTW2979 to ensure it is the brake controller circuit that you don't currently have on your pickup. I have attached a diagram showing the wiring configuration for the Hopkins wiring kit that you can use to make sure everything is connected properly.
