Question:
If my tow vehicle is equipped with a 6 pin receptacle, can use an adapter to convert to 7 pin flat and then use the Echo brake controller?

Helpful Expert Reply:
Yes, you could use an adapter like # 47435 to convert your 6-pole wiring to the 7-way format to allow use of the innovative Curt Echo # C51180 wireless trailer brake controller but instead of going this route I strongly recommend you change out the socket on your vehicle to a 7-way like # HM40975-11998.
If you can avoid using a wiring adapter you will also avoid the potential connection issues that can occur when any adapter is used. Adapters mean an additional set of contacts and connections - more places for a connectivity problem to arise. Reliability in the long-term will be much better if you wire in a new connector # HM40975-11998 which will give you not only a 7-way hookup but also a 4-pole too. For a similar 7-way-only use part # PK11898.
Hookup will be easiest if you have a simple circuit tester like # PK11898 which will make it simple to confirm the function carried on each wire of your 6-pole. This will make it easy to make the correct connections to the 7-way harness included in both part # HM40975-11998 and # PK11898. The linked wiring guide will also assist your install.
