Wiring for Trailer to Match 4-Way on Tow Vehicle  

Question:

Hello, i have a truck bed converted to a trailer. Wanting to run the lights to work the same as the tow vehicle. there is 4 wires coming out of the tail light on the trailer. one for turn signal, one for brake light, one for running light and one for the ground. How do i get this to work correctly?

If you are installing a 4-Way like the Curt T-Connector # C56349 on your 2016 Toyota Tacoma (that you inserted for your vehicle info) then you need to make sure the wiring on your trailer matches the wiring configuration of this 4-Way (see attached).

If you don't already have wiring on your trailer then I recommend using a kit like the Optronics # A35W42B which comes with a 4-Way and 35' of wiring that you'd just run to your lights:

White - ground
Brown - tail lights
Yellow - driver side stop/turn
Green - passenger side stop/turn

You can use 12V power from your vehicle battery to find what wires on your lights are for which functions.
