How To Prevent Trailer Sway At Highway Speeds Using A 2018 Ford F-150

Question:

Hello, We have a 2018 Ford F150 diesel towing a 2018 Heartland Wilderness 3150DS. We purchased the Reese Strait-Line Weight distribution System w Sway Control - 8,000 lbs GTW, 800 lbs TW and still having sway problems at speed greater than 55 MPH. We had the travel trailer towed with a dually and it towed no problem so we ruled out that the issue was not the travel trailer. Before we purchased the Reese Strait-line, we had the weight distribution system sold by Camping World. We took the truck and the travel trailer to a trailer dealer and ended up getting airbags because the Camping World hitch was ineffective. What else can we do to feel safe towing?

The solution I have for your 2018 Ford F-150 to help remove the left over trailer sway is to use the Curt Electronic Sway Control System part # C94VV which works a bit differently than a weight distribution system like your Strait-Line Weight Distribution System part # RP66083 because it uses the trailer brakes to help keep the trailer inline as opposed to friction on the spring bars. The combination of both electric and friction sway control should be what you need to keep your 2018 Heartland Wilderness 3150DS from swaying during speeds greater than 55 MPH.

I will however say that this is a common compliant with the late model Ford F-150's. The weight distribution system could very well be setup properly as well as the trailer loaded correctly but yet still have sway. I can't say exactly what causes this but I can say this is not uncommon and we hear this compliant quite often.
