Can I Add Swing Away Arm To Lets Go Aero GearSpace 34
Question:
Hi, Is there any way to attach the GearSpace 34 Enclosed Cargo Carrier with a swing arm, like the Thule model. We are trying to stow away two bikes and still have access to the rear doors. Thanks!

The Gear Space 34 Enclosed Cargo Carrier part # HGK826 is a slide out model so depending on your vehicle's rear doors you may have access to the rear cargo area. For example: the slide out feature does clear the hatchback on a 2014 Toyota Sienna like in the photo I have attached. It provides 31 inches of clearance between the center of the hitch pin hole (where it pins into the hitch) and the back of the carrier when slid out. If you have more than 31 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole past your rear hatch when open then the carrier would clear it.
However, if you need more clearance you can use a Yakima BackSwing Swing Away Arm part # Y02483 for the Gearspace but it will cut your overall hitch capacity in half which is the general rule for most hitch extenders. For example: if your hitch tongue weight capacity is 350 lbs, your new tongue weight capacity is 175 lbs. That includes the weight of the Swing Away Arm that weighs 35 lbs, the lightest swing away arm option we carry.
