Can Dual Hitch Receiver be Used to Transport Kayaks and Bikes on a Travel Trailer

Question:

Im wanting to use a cargo basket and bed extender vertically on the back of my travel trailer. The Rv dealer said the hitch is rated for 500 pounds. My thought was get a dual hitch adapter. Use a cargo basket and vertical bed extender to hall 2 kayaks and 2 bikes. Do you think this is possible and what products would you recommend for this? Thank You

While it is entirely possible to use a dual hitch adapter like the Malone # MPG544 for a cargo basket and load extender, the biggest drawback to a dual hitch adapter is that it cuts the weight capacity of your trailer hitch in half plus there is a lot of extra movement at the back of a travel trailer due to the location of the axle(s) in regard to where the trailer hitch sits. Because of this I highly recommend against using this option.

Instead what I recommend doing is using either the load extender, like the Rhino-Rack # RTL002, or a bike rack, like the Swagman Dispatch # S44FR, in conjunction with a front mount hitch receiver, like part # C31069, on the 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 that you selected for your vehicle. This then allows you to use the other product with the trailer hitch on your travel trailer so you can transport your equipment safely. Please note that if you want to use the Goalpost at the front you also need a roof rack on your pickup to help with your kayaks. Let me know if you'd like to go this route and I can make a recommendation for a roof rack for you.
