On your 2011 Hyundai Elantra you will be limited to a maximum of two bikes on a hitch bike because the hitches that fit your vehicle will all be a Class I rated hitch. A Class I hitch has a maximum tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs. That is how much weight that can be applied to the hitch opening.

Since you mention about opening your trunk I would assume you have the Elantra Sedan model and not the Hatchback.

If you need a hitch I recommend the Draw-Tite Class I 1-1/4 Hitch, part # 24902, for your Hyundai Elantra Sedan. I am including a couple of links to the installation instructions and to a video of the hitch being installed on a 2011 Hyundai Elantra.

A hitch bike rack that is a platform style, or tray type like you have mentioned is a bike rack that can easily loaded.

For a Class I rated platform-style hitch bike rack I would recommend the Swagman XTC-2 Bike Carrier, part # S64670. This bike rack has wheel hoops that the bike will sit in and the ratchet hooks will hold the bike in place. It is a very simple way to load and tie-down your bike(s). It has a maximum weight capacity of 35 lbs per bike. I am including a link to the installation instructions on the Swagman bike rack.

With this bike rack installed the trunk will still open, it just might be hard to access the trunk if the bikes are installed on the bike rack.
