Recommended Trunk Mount Bike Rack for 2001 Honda Accord Coupe with Spoiler

Question:

Thanks for the recommendations! Will either or both fit the frame of a Transitions mountain bike? My Current Thule doesn't. Thanks

Since you don't want a hitch I assume you aren't interested in a roof rack for the same reason so that leaves you with a trunk mount rack. A great trunk mount I like to recommend is the Saris Bones, part # SA805BL. This is a high quality, easy to install rack that's more affordable than some of the others. The arched design is great for spoilers and it's mostly made of plastic making it a lot less susceptible to rust and corrosion. It also has anti-sway cradles. The only thing I don't like about the Bones is it doesn't come with locks. They can, however, be added using part # SA981 for a cable lock and part # TH533 for the strap to secure the rack to the vehicle.

Another rack that I consider an upgrade to the Bones is the Thule Gateway Pro, part # TH88VR. It's also great for spoilers and has anti-sway cradles.

One more thing to consider with any hanging bike rack, like the Bones and the Gateway Pro, is a bike frame adapter bar. They're used on women's, children's, and alternative frame bikes as the horizontal cross tube like men's bikes have. If you need one I recommend the Swagman Deluxe, part # 64005.

I wasn't familiar with the Transition mountain bike so I had to look it up. It looks like the problem with your current rack is because the crosstube between the handlebar stem and seat post slants down a lot which causes issues on hanging racks. It's the same problem women's bikes have on hanging racks. The arms either don't fit within the frame or if they do it causes the bikes to hang at an awkward angle that isn't ideal. You'll almost definitely have the same problem with both the Archway XT and the Saris Bones. The solution is the adapter bar I mentioned, part # 64005 from Swagman. It connects to the handlebar stem and the seat post becoming the horizontal crosstube so the arms of the rack fit and carry the bikes level.
