Troubleshooting Install of Trailer Wiring in 2005 Volkswagen Jetta Where Stoplights Don't Work
Question:
I installed this on my vehicle, an 05 VW Jetta Old Body. The running lights, and directionals work but the break lights do not? I followed the instructional video for the 2000 Jetta because it has the same tail light setup as my car. The cars break lights work, its just the trailer break lights. Im not sure what to do or where the problem is.

The problem is the red wire of the Curt trailer wiring harness part # C59236 that you referenced. This needs to be connected to a circuit that only sees voltage when the brakes are applied. This is why the kit isn't activating the brake lights like it needs to.
