Long Ball Mount Recommendation that Provides 3.5 inches Of Drop for Towing Casita Trailer
Question:
I need the extra length of a long ball mount for tailgate clearance. I’ve narrowed it down to two options: Curt D-28 and Hidden Hitch 80232. The flange on the D-28, is that for additional strength due to the severe drop? Both have same workload specs. Is one better than the other given country of manufacturing? Is Hidden Hitch made in Mexico? I have a single axle Casita travel trailer that tows level with a 3.5” drop. Which is the better/safer option, 2” vs. 6” ?

Your number one priority with picking out a ball mount needs to be going with one that allows the trailer to tow as level as possible. Since your trailer requires a 3.5 inch drop to tow level your best option is a longer ball mount that has a drop figured closer to what you need than the two options you mentioned.
The best option for that is the Curt ball mount part # C45270 which provides 4 inches of drop and is 13 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole. This gets you the length you need plus the drop you'd need to top your trailer level.
The towing capacities of this ball mount are 7,500 lbs total trailer weight and 750 lbs tongue weight.
