Comparing Replacement Slider Base for Reese 20K 5th Wheel Hitch Head to Andersen Ultimate Hitch

Question:

Just want to confirm if the leaf springs in this hitch is not a replacement item - f not, i need to replace it. What are the main differences between the RP50024 and the RP30048 that you recommend as a replacement? Also can you confirm that my current 16K head will work with the Reese slider RP30048. Also, considering changing directions and going to the Anderson AM3200. Would like to confirm compatibility of 2016 F350 standard bed and a Grand Design Reflection 27RL plus any other guidance. Many thanks

The leaf spring inside of the Reese Round Tube Slider part # RP50024 you asked about is not a replacement part offered by the manufacturer. If the leaf spring is damaged then the only option is to replace the entire slider assembly.

There is another slider base option that is more cost efficient and will work with the hitch head you currently have. It is the Reese Fifth Wheel Slider part # RP30048 which is square tube versus round tube. The biggest difference there is the rollers travel on a flat surface versus a rounded surface which could give more opportunity for binding or slightly more difficulty rolling between the two locking positions. This is a very minor issue if you keep your bed clean and the slider maintained.

The Andersen Ultimate Connection 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch System with Adapter - 20,000 lbs # AM3200 will work in the standard bed of your 2016 F-350 and offers a 9 inch offset. The sliding 5th wheel hitches will be much more sturdy and offer 10 inches of travel but are much heavier. The Andersen Ultimate is only 40 lbs so much easier to install. You will feel more jarring and chucking with that hitch simply because there isn't any integrated shock absorption. It is a direct connection to your Grand Design Reflection 27RL and gives you less turning clearance. The weight is the biggest positive and it is directly compatible with your current rails.
