7-Way and Brake Controller Recommendation for 2007 Jeep Commander Sport
Question:
Hello I am in the process of setting up the needs for towing a car using a 2007 Jeep Commander Sport. It has a hitch receiver already and the 7-pin connector looks old and a bit squashed. I am looking for options on the brake controller and what else I should be looking for to safely haul please.

I have a really great and easy solution to replace your 7-way and install a brake controller. First to replace the 7-way all you need is the part # HM42190 which will easily replace the smashed one you have now.
The easiest to install brake controller that also works really well is the Curt Echo Mobile part # C51180. Basically this just plugs into an active 7-way and once you sync it to your phone it's ready to go. This brake controller is proportional which means it senses the amount of deceleration your tow vehicle is applying and applies the trailer brakes in a relative way.
Since you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
If the ball mount kit does not include a ball mount with the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, check out the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.
