Do I Need To Install 15 Inch Wheels and Tires to Add Brakes to a Trailer
Question:
Hello, looking to add brakes to my single axle trailer , its my understanding that i need to run 15 inch wheels to accommodate the drums. I currently run st185/80d13, what wheel/tire combo should i replace them with? i should add that there isnt much more clearance to run bigger tires under the fenders on my trailer.

It is not a requirement to use 15" diameter wheels on a trailer in order to install most electric or hydraulic brakes. If you have a 3,500 lb axle then all of the electric drum and hydraulic disc brakes will accept your 13" wheels. If you do have a 3,500 lb axle then you can use the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # AKHD-545-35-K (2), the Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # AKEBRK-35-SA, and the Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit part # HS381-9000 in order to install electric brakes.
That said, the next closest size up we have for you is a 205/75-15 which measures 27" diameter x 8" wide. The best option we have in this size is the Taskmaster Provider tire part # TR20515D which has a load range D (2,150 lb) and speed M (81 mph) rating and then add the wheel # AM20422. You would need to get them mounted at a local shop.
