Weight Distribution System for 2007 Tundra Towing 24ft Road Runner Travel Trailer
Question:
I just purchased a Trail Runner 24 foot TT, dry weight 4500, gross 6600 lbs. I have a 2007 Toyota Tundra SR5 with off road package and 5.7 engine and has factory installed tow package. Question is, what WD and Sway control system do I need. I dont want someting that is marginal, I want to be safe. I am a newbie to towing a TT.

The first step in choosing the correct weight distribution (W/D) system is to determine the actual as-towed tongue weight of your trailer. Anything stowed in the bed of the truck behind the rear axle should be included as tongue weight. For best performance, the tongue weight of the camper should fall as close as possible to the middle of the effective range of the system you choose.
For instance, lets assume that the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your travel trailer is in the neighborhood of 575 lbs. In that case, the Reese Heavy Duty Trunnion W/D system, part # RP66083 would be ideal. This system is rated for trailers with tongue weights ranging from 400-800 lbs and uses the Reese Dual Cam sway control that will actually prevent trailer sway before it can begin. The Dual Cam system uses integrated hooks in the rear of the spring bars. These hooks ride on a cam that is attached to the trailer frame. Because the spring bars are under quite a bit of tension, the trailer will stay in line behind the trailer, despite passing vehicles and cross winds. Once you make a turn, the force of the turn overcomes the tension between the cam and the spring bar, and allows the turn until you straighten the vehicle out.
The system includes the adjustable weight distribution shank, but the appropriate trailer ball with 1-1/4 inch threaded shank is sold separately. For a 2 inch ball, use part # A-90 or for a 2-5/16 inch ball, use part # 19286.
I have linked you to the install instructions for the W/D system I recommended, as well as some videos that will help you through the install process.
