Blue Ox Gooseneck Hitch and 5th Wheel Trailer Compatibility on 2007 Ford F-250

Question:

Ive a Blue Ox gooseneck on my diesel F250/2007. Im looking to buy a 5th wheel trailer. First thought Id get an adapter and use my gooseneck, but learned those can void some warranties because the leverage can possibly crack the frame on the trailer. SO, getting a 5th wheel hitch is my idea now, but the Gooseneck is already installed. I didnt see you reference it. I might go down to where I bought it 3 years ago and get their opinion. Whats your opinion? I called the local trailer place that installed my Blue Ox gooseneck. They said a Curt A16 would work to put over the Gooseneck. Do you agree with that? Thanks

Since you have a Blue Ox gooseneck hitch on your F-250 the installation plate locations will interfere with any 5th wheel base plates so the Curt A16 # C16120 will not be compatible . I think you have the correct idea of adding a hitch, so I recommend the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter - Single Jaw - 21,000 lbs # DM8550045 which is compatible with your gooseneck trailer hitch ball and will give you a solid connection.

If you want to instead use a different pin box, your other option is to use a Goose Box like # RP85FR which will attach to your trailer (as long as it is the correct pin box mounting location) and then directly to the gooseneck hitch ball. This option gives you air ride for a smoother trip.

Your other option is to use the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter - 12" to 16" Tall - 20,000 lbs # CAB-C5G which can void warranties, but we have not seen any issues with using these adapters when installed properly and used for correct weight capacities.
