Can Lower Capacity Leaf Springs be Used if Trailer Isnt Loaded to Capacity

Question:

Were building a tandem axle trailer using 2, 4 inch in diameter round axles. 5 lug wheels It is my understanding they are rated at 9000# each. Using your chart. The old springs measured 26 eye to eye The trailer will probably never have over 5 - 6000 lbs on it. We will be hauling our Alaskan camper and quad. Were looking at the 4500# 6 leaf? We want it to be adequate, but not ride like a buck board.

You can use the 4,500 lbs axle Leaf Spring # e27SR with your 4" axles rated for 9,000 lbs as long as the U-Bolt kit is compatible with a 1-3/4" leaf spring. The only U-Bolt plate that we carry for a 4" axle is part # 12-42 so you will need to figure out a way to take up the gap between the smaller leaf spring and the wider U-Bolts like part # 11-64.

Also be sure that you don't exceed 9,000 lbs total with your trailer since the 4,500 lb leaf springs per axle will be the limiting factor.
