Recommended Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty

Question:

Need some help and guidance. I am taking delivery of a 2020 Renegade Verona RV in July. I have been looking at towing my 2016 Mazda 6 on a tow dolly, but I also have a 2017 Ford F-350 4x4 that can be flat towed. Flat towing looks to be the better option as I would not have a dolly to store and the Verona would have no issue pulling the F-350. Starting from scratch, what would I need to purchase for my F-350 to flat tow it Tow Bars, Base Plate, Safety Cables, Light Wiring Kit, Brake System, etc.. I would prefer to use a portable braking system for ease and portability over an installed unit. Let me know your thoughts and I appreciate your help. Regards,

You are definitely on the right track as far as parts needed to flat tow your 2017 Ford F-350.

For a tow bar I recommend the Roadmaster Nighthawk All Terrain # RM-676 because it has integrated safety cables and coiled wiring umbilical, non-binding arms, and LED lights on the arms so that traffic can tell that you are flat towing. The base plate kit that you need for this is the EZ-5 # RM-524452-5 which has a direct-connect system to the tow bar.

Then for wiring I recommend the All Terrain Towing Combo Kit # RM-9284-2 because it comes with the rest of the wiring needed to complete the coiled wiring umbilical with the Nighthawk All-Terrain plus it comes with a tow bar cover, locks, and lubricant to keep everything operating properly.

Since you are wanting a portable braking system I recommend sticking with the Roadmaster theme and using the Even Brake # RM-9400 which applies your brakes at the same time and with the same intensity as the brake pedal in your 2020 Renegade Verona. This also includes a monitor that you mount in the motorhome to keep you updated on what is happening with the Even Brake during travel.

The only other thing that you may need is a high-low adapter to keep the Nighthawk All-Terrain within the 3" safe-zone operating range. I have attached a photo showing where the base plate kit will sit on your F-350 as well as our list of adapters and a link to help you determine if you need one and what the correct one to use would be.

This isn't required but you may also be interested in the Roadmaster Tow Defender Protective Screening # RM-4750 to help keep road debris from hitting your pickup.

Please be sure to reference your owner's manual for any specific instructions for flat towing your Super Duty.
