Trailer Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2011 Ford F-150
Question:
I am interested in purchasing a brake controller for my new truck, I have never had one and found the P2 and P3 to be the most popular. Can you tell me which one you would suggest, if you suggest a different one please do so. Thanks

Since you are new to brake controllers, I recommend going with the P2, # 90885, because it is easier to set up and sue than the P3. The P3, # 90195, is a very good brake controller but it could be confusing to use if you are not familiar with brake controllers.
The P2 is easily our most popular controller. It is easy to set up, easy to use, and it has a lot of useful features. It can be mounted a full 360 degrees in the direction of travel, it can be used with electric over hydraulic braking systems, and it has some diagnostic features. I have included a link to the installation details for you.
If your 2011 Ford came with a 7-Way trailer connector, all you will need to install the controller is a harness # 22292. I have included a link to the installation details for you.
If your truck has a 4-Way flat connector, in addition to the 22292 harness you will also need to add a 7-Way trailer connector, # 37185. If you follow the factory 4-Way wiring back to another connector towards the front of the truck, the forward side connector will have additional wires if you pull back the insulating wire. These wires can be used to wire into the 7-Way.
You will need to test the wires for function using a circuit tester like # 3808 if needed. On the 37185 harness, black is for 12 volt power, white is ground (truck frame), purple is for reverse lights, and blue is for out put from the brake controller to the trailer brakes.
