Recommended B&W Gooseneck to 5th Wheel Companion Hitch for 2018 Ram 2500 Diesel
Question:
Purchasing a ‘18 Ram 2500 diesel without the manufacturer installed 5th wheel prep package. I spoke with a shop that does the prep and they’re steering me toward just the gooseneck prep so that all I need is the BandW Companion sliding hitch. They mentioned this is great because it eliminates the rails. What are your thoughts on this set-up and hitch?

The B&W Turnoverball gooseneck # BWGNRK1384-5W and Companion 5th Wheel hitch # BWRVK3500-5W are an excellent option and are extremely popular. This will fit your truck and will give you the clean bed as they stated. I love this option and recommend it often. They only restriction is that this hitch is not compatible with rotating pin boxes so if you have a Sidewinder, Revolution, or Turning Point Pin box of your trailer this wouldn't be compatible. All traditional pin boxes work very well.
If you have a short bed, then you will use the sliding hitch # BWRVK3400-5W to give you the turning clearance needed.
With a 5th wheel and gooseneck system I also recommend adding an in-bed wiring connection like # 41157 for ease of use and a clean look.
If you have a rotating pin box or need greater towing capacity than the 20K then I recommend going with the above bed rails like # RP50054-58 which have custom fit brackets for your truck frame.
