Experiencing Rough Ride with 2,200 lb Timbren Axle-Less Suspension Installed on 1,300 lb Tear Drop

Question:

Just install this axle on my tear trailer and I notice my trailer ride rougher compare to my old torsion axle which ride really smooth with or without load, the reason I switch is because I needed the height, my trailer weight around 1300lb dry weight, is the rough ride normal for these axle

I just spoke with my contact at Timbren who said that if you are towing your trailer dry right now at the 1,300 lbs then that is why it is a little rough. Since the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System # ASR1THDS03 is rated for 2,200 lbs you need to put more weight in your trailer. Once you have some more load in your trailer you will start to experience the performance of the AEON progressive-rate main springs.

I will be doing a similar install with a similarly light-weight trailer 1,000 lbs total. I also want the bolt pattern to match my Toyota Tacoma.My tentative purchase list is : Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System - 4 Lift Spindle w/Flange - Off-Road Tires - 2.2K - ASR1THDS03, Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 10 - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 3,500 lbs - AKEBRK-35-SA 1, Brake Mounting Flange for 1-3/4 Round Trailer Axles - 2K - 4-34, Epicord 7-Way Molded Trailer Plug with Junction Box - 10 Long - 277-000141 1, Jacketed 2 Wire Brake Wire - 12 Gauge - per Foot - 12-2-1, Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 3,500-lb E-Z Lube Axles - 10 Diameter - 5 on 5-1/2 - AKHD-555-35-EZ-K What am I missing?

Your list looks pretty good! One thing you WON'T need though is the Brake Flange # 4-34, as the Timbren Axle-Less System comes with these already welded to the spindles. The hubs and brakes you picked out are compatible with the Timbren setup, and the Epicord 7-Way and Junction Box is perfect for wiring up a new trailer. To wire up the brakes I would use a bit thicker gauge wiring like # 10-1-1 and you'll also need a breakaway kit like the Hopkins # 20400. Other than that you will just need to add those smaller pieces like butt connectors and ground screws - I've linked our selections below.

@ChrisR I'm ready to pull the trigger on this project and as I read and re-read this article and the replies, I'm wondering if there is another option rather than the "Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System - 4 Lift Spindle w/Flange - Off-Road Tires - 2.2K - ASR1THDS03" for a light-weight trailer like mine. I'd rather not weigh it down to 2.2 k lbs if I don't need to. It generally weighs about 1.5 fully loaded and I'd love to stay with the lighter weight. Is there another option for an off-road lift that would work with a lighter load like my trailer has?

@ChrisR One more thing. I want to have Tacoma-compatible wheels to allow for me to use my truck's spare on the trailer. The Tacoma's lug pattern is 6x5.5... but I don't see that lug pattern available in your hub and drum assemblies. Do you have a suggestion there?
