Availability of Brake Controller Plug-In Adapter for 2016 Jeep Wrangler

Question:

Good morning. I wanted to know if a plug and play adapter wiring harness is available for this unit. I currently have the standard 4 plug harness and need to update for a brake system and plug. I don’t want to “splice” into the factory wiring harness. 2016 Jeep JK Wrangler 75th Anniversary 4 Door Thanks

There is not a plug-and-play brake controller harness available for your 2016 Jeep Wrangler simply because the Wrangler isn't equipped with a port to which one could plug into.

If your Wrangler currently has a standard 4-Flat connector this will need to be converted to a 7-Way in order to use a brake controller like the excellent Curt Spectrum # C51170 that you referenced. To do this I recommend using the Wiring Kit # ETBC7, which includes all the necessary wiring and circuit breakers to provide you with a fully functional 7-Way connector from the existing 4-Way.

Then to install the Spectrum itself you can use the Wiring Adapter # C51515. One end of this adapter will plug into the brake controller and the other pigtail end will splice into the Jeep's factory wiring. I have attached a sample install video of a different brake controller on a 2013 model Jeep Wrangler just so you can get a better idea of the process.

If you'd really rather not splice into the factory wiring of your Jeep another great option is with the Curt Echo # C51180. This is a unique controller that installs by simply plugging into the 7-Way on the vehicle and then pairing to your smart phone via Bluetooth.

This means the only actual wiring you will need to work with is converting that 4-Way on the Jeep to a 7-Way, for which you can use the Wiring Kit # ETBC7L. The 7-Way inside this kit will simply plug into the Jeep's 4-Way and the only additional wire you need to run is the 12V black wire up to the Jeep's battery to provide power to the Echo.

This eliminates any splicing and also keeps you from having to add anything to the cab area of your Jeep since your phone is what is used to adjust any settings or operate the manual override. I have attached a video demonstration on the Curt Echo as well so you can see exactly how it works.
