Leaf Spring and Hanger Kit Recommendation for Trailer with 3,500 lb Axles to Lower Height

Question:

I need to replace the trailer springs on my tandom axle boat trailer. The springs measure 20 3/8 inches and all of the springs I see are only rated for 2k axles. My trailer has 3500 pound axles that I know are not original. Are there any heavier springs available? Also I would like to lower the trailer a little if possible. I had to put the axles under the springs to clear the larger 14 inch tires I put on. I was wondering if I could drill a hole higher on my existing center hanger? Its currently 4¼ lower than the frame and it looks like I could drill it about 1½ inch higher than it currently is. I also thought about replacing the current 6¼ curbed equilizer with a 5½ inch straight equilizer. Perhaps with half inch longger shackles. Are either of those methods preferred?

Since all of the 3,500 lb axle leaf springs are longer than what you have currently which would mean you'd have to move your hangers your best option would be a hanger kit that's a little lower than what you have to lower the trailer like you want. The most common 3,500 lb axle spring is the part # e54SR which measures 25-1/8 inches in length.

The # APT3 sits the lowest of all of the kits so it would be your best choice to use to replace what you have currently. Also it's not recommended to drill into hangers like you mentioned.
