Why Gooseneck Towing Isn't Better Solution than Sidewinder for Towing Truck with Rambox

Question:

Ive seen the answer about a sidewinder pin box option to tow fifth wheels with a Rambox, but I was interested in something that theoretically seems easier and should be more robust. I dont have any fifth wheel or gooseneck prep on my Ramboxd 2500, but was wondering what it would take to pull a fifth wheel RV as a gooseneck?? Is there a gooseneck conversion available to install on fifth wheel RVs? What would be needed for my truck? Wouldnt the gooseneck be a higher tow rating while also allowing the RV to turn at the ball instead of the trailers custom hitch? Thanks!

While I agree that would be a great solution the problem is that all trucks that have the RamBoxes are shorter bed trucks that need more turning clearance than what a gooseneck hitch could provide. Basically the huge advantage fifth wheel towing has over gooseneck is that if you have a short bed truck you could still make a tight turn if you had a slider hitch or Sidewinder pin box.

The only solution for towing a fifth wheel trailer with a Ram Box truck so that you can make turns without interference is a Sidewinder pin box on the trailer and a fixed hitch in the bed of the truck.

Sidewinders are pin box specific so you will first need to know what pin box you have now in order to pick out the correct one.

There should be a sticker or a stamping on the OEM pin box of the trailer that will list the pin box number that is on the trailer.

Once you figure out which pin box you have you can check the FAQ I attached that has a chart that shows the correct Sidewinder to get based on which pin box you have.
