Sidewinder Pivoting Pin Box for 5th Wheel Trailer Towed by 2005 Nissan Titan
Question:
I have 2005 Titan and a Reese 16k sliding fifth wheel do I still need to get a sidewinder for the king pin?

Expert Reply:
A sliding 5th wheel hitch like the 16K Reese # RP30075 will give you enough turning clearance if your Titan has a 6-1/2-foot bed, but not if it has the 5-1/2-foot bed. The shorter bed will require that the trailer have a Sidewinder or Revolution pivoting pin box which extends turning clearance by 22-inches. You can still keep and use the slider hitch but it will need to remain in the forward locked position at all times.
Sidewinder pin boxes are made as replacements for many of the most popular OEM pin box models. You'll want to find the trailer pin box part number (usually found on a sticker on the driver side of the box) and then cross-reference to our Sidewinders using the linked article. We offer Sidewinders in 16K and 20K ratings and some models are available with an air cushion to give a smoother ride too.
As an example, the Lippert 1621 is a very popular OEM pin box and for it we have the following Sidewinder replacements that bolt on in its place:
# RP34FR 20K without air cushion
# RP61422 16K with air cushion
