Recommendation to Replace 155/80R13 Tires on Trailer

Question:

Hey there I have a trailer that uses 155/80r13 tires on a 4 by 6inch bolt pattern rim. Tricky to find and i need to buy a spare. There isnt alot of space in the wheel hub to go much bigger with a tire either. Any suggestions?

The 155/80R13 tire is a pretty odd size which is why you're having a lot of difficulty finding exact replacements. The closest option we have available is an ST175/80R13 like the excellent Kenda Loadstar # AM1ST76. It features a maximum load of 1,360 pounds at 50 psi and a speed rating of 81 mph.

This tire will be taller by 1.2 inches and wider by 0.8 inches compared to what you currently have. Keep in mind that only half of this height difference (0.6 inch) will actually matter in terms of fender clearance since the other half will sit below the axle. As long as you still have at least 4 inches of clearance between the tire and fender with the new size this will work well.

We do have the above Kenda Loadstar Tire mounted to a 4-bolt wheel with part # AM3S120 but it is a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern. I have not heard of a 4 on 6 inch pattern so you might want to verify this. With a 4-bolt wheel you will just measure from the center of one hole to the center of the hole on the opposite side. If this distance is 4 inches then you have a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern. I have also attached an article to assist.

Please keep in mind that you need to have the same size tires on your trailer to ensure even wear so if you decide to go this route I highly recommend that you change out all the tires to the larger size (not just the spare).
