Do I Need Relays From the Dealer for the Trailer Wiring to Work on a 2016 Acura MDX

Question:

I am interested in ordering part 118628 for my 2016 Acura MDX 2016 SH-AWD. Thank you for the informative videos and instructions, as a DYI-er I feel as if I can install the harness. Your literature notes Tech Tip: It may be necessary to see a local Acura dealer for a relay. The relay is needed to activate the tow package wiring circuit. I have not seen instructions on how/where to install this relay, nor a part number. Is there any further instructions you can offer? Can this be installed by a DYIer while installing the harness? Is this a part a dealership will stock? Please advise. Much thanks

The additional relay that you mentioned in a tech tip was an isolated incident that should not be a problem on your 2016 Acura MDX. I spoke with two of the lead techs at Tekonsha and neither of them have ever heard of this issue before therefore, I think it is safe to say that the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 118628 has everything that you need and you don't have to go to the dealer for any relays. There are however fuses included with the kit you need to install but this is still a DIY job by all means.
