How To Add Brakes to a 2000 Jayco Qwest 10 Foot Trailer
Question:
Hi, Im looking to install electric brakes on my 2000 Jayco Qwest 10 ft trailer because Im towing it with a light SUV 06 tuscon. The trailer axle is a 2000 lb and doesnt have the square mounting flange for brakes. I dont see any 2000lb axles that come complete with brakes so what would be my best options that doesnt require any welding?

If you do not want to have a brake mounting flange welded onto your axle then your only option is to either upgrade the axle capacity or use the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System part # ASR2000S02 which comes with the brake mounting flanges you need. If you want to use the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System which offers bolt-on installation then you will also need the Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # AKEBRK-35 and the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K (2).
If you want to upgrade your axle capacity then the next size up that has a brake mounting flange pre-welded is 3,500 lbs. However, this means you also have to swap out your leaf springs and u-bolts as well. There may also be welding required if the spring seats don't match up. In order to offer the correct parts I would need you to measure your axle (see photo 1) as well as your leaf springs (see photo 2).
For example, the kit # e43SR has an 89" hub face and 74" spring center measurement. The 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles part # e54SR has an unloaded eye to eye measurement of 25-1/8". The Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit part # HS381-9000 will also be needed for either option.
