The B&W Companion Gooseneck-to-5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter part # BWRVK3500 can indeed be broken down into two pieces, the head which weighs around 70 lbs and the base which weighs around 130 lbs. However, this option will not allow for sufficient turning clearance because you have a short bed truck. If you wanted to use the B&W Companion Gooseneck-to-5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter then you would need the slider version, part # BWRVK3400. This slider version uses the same head as the fixed version so the weight of the head will remain at 70 lbs but the weight of the base will be slightly more at 200 lbs.

In regards to quality and longevity, you really can't beat the B&W Companion but the reason they are able to make the hitch so durable is because they use very thick steel which then in turn adds weight. I know alot of our customers are able to deal with the added weight for the sake of getting a quality, well made 5th wheel hitch so if you are as well then you can use the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch part # BWGNRK1016 to install either of them. The B&W Turnoverball will provide full truck bed access while the hitch is removed and it serves as a connection point for a gooseneck trailer.

The best option I have for you if you don't want to use the slider version of the B&W Companion would be to first install the Elite Series Under-Bed Gooseneck Complete Hitch part # RP30158-68 which is similar to the B&W Turnoverball but will allow you to use a fixed 5th wheel hitch like Reese M5 # RP30928 with a rotating pin box like the Sidewinder 5th Wheel King Pin with Rotating Turret part # RP34FR. Please confirm the model of your pin box to see if this is correct. The Sidewinder Wedge for Curt A Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches part # C16992 will also be required.

I have attached a list of parts you will need for either setup below.

Option 1:

B&W Companion Gooseneck-to-5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter part # BWRVK3400
B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch part # BWGNRK1016
Mighty Cord 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Wiring Harness part # A10-7007

Option 2:

Elite Series Under-Bed Gooseneck Complete Hitch part # RP30158-68
Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Single Jaw - 20,000 lbs # RP30928
Sidewinder 5th Wheel King Pin with Rotating Turret part # RP34FR
Sidewinder Wedge # RP44FR
Mighty Cord 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Wiring Harness part # A10-7007

I have attached review/install videos on the above parts for you as well.
