Will the Tow Ready Multi-Plug # 20137 Replace a Powered Converter on 2003 Lexus GX470
Question:
I have been using a powered converter to power my trailer lights. However the converter has stopped working and I was trouble shooting, and noticed a wiring harness near the rear bumper that looks just like the picture you have in the product description. It has the two plugs, one with the 3 blades, and one with the four. Will the 20137 work with this connection.

Tow Ready tells me that most likely the 20137 will work on your Lexus GX470.
You can confirm this before purchasing by having a helper activate the various lighting functions while you test the connectors under the vehicle with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993. Activate the left turn signal and test the various pins on the connector. You should locate one pin that will make the tester light up. Do the same with the right turn and the running lights. If this checks out, the 20137 will work great for you.
If you find no current at the connectors under the vehicle, check your owner's manual for the location of the fuses that manage the towing circuits. You might need to add fuses in order to complete the circuits. Once fuses are added, test the connectors under the vehicle as outlined above.
Also, be aware that something in your trailer wiring probably caused the powered converter to short out. I would recommend spending some time examining the wiring on the trailer to locate and repair the problem.
Start at the trailer connector and work rearward. Make sure that all the wires are in good condition, with no cracked or worn insulation that would allow the copper conductor inside to short out on the trailer frame. Check for loose connections or wires that are pinched. Check the lamps themselves, make sure that the bulbs and sockets are not corroded and that the lenses and housings are in good condition and will not readily admit excessive moisture.
