Which Curt 5th Wheel Set-Up Would be Best for a 1994 GMC 3500 Towing a 15,840 lb 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

I am using a 1994 GMC3500 2WD Ext.Cab Dually for My Tow Rig. My Fifth Wheel GVW is 15,840.lbs. Will this Hitch be correct, and which Installation Kits are correct for a Perfect fit? I would appreciate some Advice from an Expert.

To install a Curt 5th wheel hitch and base rails in the bed of your 1994 GMC 3500 you can use the Curt E5 fifth-wheel trailer hitch and universal base rails with installation kit, # C16116, if you have an 8 foot bed and your trailer weight will always be below 16,000 lbs. If you have a 6-1/2 foot bed you can use the Curt E5 hitch with slider and install kit, # C16616. These kits include the above bed rails and hardware and the below bed hardware and brackets for installation on the GMC.

I would recommend that you go with a hitch that has a slightly higher capacity, due to the stated weight, 15,840 lbs, of your trailer. In this case the Curt Q20 fifth-wheel hitch with rails and install kit, # C16131, would be a good choice for an 8 foot bed truck and the Curt Q20 hitch with slider and install kit, # C16636, would be good for 6-1/2 foot bed, and both have a capacity of 20,000 lbs.

The installation instructions, see link, for GMC 3500 trucks 1988 - 1998, start on page 4, but be sure to read the first 3 pages before starting the installation. Directions will be included with the kit.
