How to Carry Bikes With 2009 BMW 3 Series Convertible

Question:

Looking for a 1 1/4 receiver trailer hitch for a 2009 BMW 335i convertible. There is an extra vertical frame piece on the convertible that supports a diagonal metal tube supporting the end of the trunk. This vertical support blocks the path to the car frame member for the metal bar coming from the square tube of the hitch. Can the metal bar be modified to simply attach to the extra vertical frame piece instead?

The Curt Trailer Hitch # C11756 that fits a 2009 BMW 335i is only a fit for the 4-door sedan; in regards to modification you never want to modify a part of your vehicle or the hitch in order to make something fit as it will not have the needed support, will void warranties and could cause other unforeseen damage.

Since an '09 BMW 3 Series isn't commonly thought of as a towing vehicle, I assume you were looking for a hitch so you could use a bike rack and that is definitely still possible with the use of a trunk-mounted rack.

I highly recommend checking out the Thule Gateway Pro 2-Bike Rack # TH88VR because of how securely it holds your bikes during transportation. Its cradles will hold your bikes at three different points to make sure they don't come into contact with one another or your BMW for a safe and stable ride.

The Gateway Pro is from one of the best bike rack manufacturers in the industry, Thule, who are known for making high-quality, durable products; as such, the Gateway Pro comes with a lifetime warranty.

I have added links to video reviews of this rack for you to check out.
