Troubleshooting NC on Tekonsha Primus IQ Brake Controller
Question:
HI, I installed a Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller with ETBC7 kit on a 1997 Toyoda 4runner. Everything seems to work right except when I turn on the running or headlights then I get NC. BTW, this is the 2nd one I have installed. 1st was on a 2005 Santa Fe with NO PROBLEMS If the running lights are OFF the turn signals work and the controller seems to work fine. But as soon as I hit the running lights it NC. and nothing works. I replaced the 4way wiring with a curt 4way wiring that clips into the back lights. Re did that ground as well. Thought that was the problem. Checked all connections and wiring twice. Also hooked up another TV and it worked fine. I took the same Tekonsha Primus from that TV that worked and swapped it out and same thing. Soon as you hit the running lights it NC and the trailer running lights do not work. I know it is not that trailer cause it worked fine with the other TV and I am out of ideas. Thought I had it with a ground to the 7way it redid that to a better connection to the frame. Still NO go. HELP! Stumped!

If your Tekonsha Primus IQ # TK90160 brake controller is showing "n.c" that means there is a connection issue. A ground issue is often the problem with what you are describing, though you did say you checked that. Just to be on the safe side I strongly recommend intricately ensuring all grounds are good so you can be sure that isn't the issue.
The other most likely issue, since you mentioned you checked all of your wiring, is an issue with your connectors. Often, corrosion or dirt may be the cause of a short in a trailer connector. Check the plug to see if there is any type of corrosion built up that may be hampering its functionality and clean it out or possibly replace it. I strongly recommend using Dielectric Grease for Electrical Connectors # 11755 from now on as well in order to help prevent any type of corrosion in your connectors.
