Weight Capacity of Malone Roof Rack and Fishing Kayak Compatibility

Question:

Weight capacity of the Malone Roof Rack #MPG202 The stated weight capacity says 165 pounds. Is this the total weight capacity across both bars or is the weight capacity for each individual bar? Looking at these for use with a fishing kayak and possibly a second, which the kayaks can range from 90 pounds to 125 pounds a piece. Thanks.

The Malone SteelTop Roof Rack - Square Crossbars - Raised, Factory Side Rails - Steel - 58" Long # MPG202 has a total weight capacity of 165 lbs. This is true of the vast majority of roof rack systems. This is the standard roof rack rating but there are some manufacturers that will test the capacity based on the vehicle where other manufacturers like Malone will tell you the rating of their system and you need to check your owner's manual for any further weight restrictions.

For fishing kayaks, most systems can only handle one kayak not only based on weight but also based on the width of the fishing kayak. I recommend using the Malone MegaWing Sit-On-Top Kayak Carrier with Tie-Downs # MPG207 designed to be used with fishing kayaks.
