Does Wall Mounted Thermostat Need to be Installed for the Atwood Air Command # AT15028-22

Question:

Replacing a Carrier Air Command without a wall mounted thermostat. If I purchase this Atwood, do I have to install a wall thermostat? Will the wiring harness work without adapters?

If you are replacing your Carrier Air Command with the Atwood Air Command # AT15028-22 then yes, you will need to install the wall mounted thermostat so that you can operate the unit. I spoke with my contact at Dometic who confirmed this.

I also asked my contact about the wiring harness and he said that you shouldn't need any adapters but he wasn't sure how all of the wiring connections match up between the 2 units.

Since the wiring connections seem to be a bit of a concern for you then you may want to take a look at the Advent Air Replacement RV Air Conditioner # ACCAR150. This actually plugs directly into your Carrier setup and allows you to use your Carrier ceiling vent and thermostat. This kit comes with the start capacitor to keep the starting watts down to a minimum and you can add the Heat Strip # ACMHD for heat.

If you want to stick with the Atwood and haven't installed an AC unit before then it may be best to have a shop perform the installation for you.
