Troubleshooting Older Venture Landing Gear and Motor Making Popping Sound

Question:

I have a 2007 Gulfstream Yellowstone 29.5 fifth wheel the landing gear or motor has a popping sound after about 12 inch extension I checked the worm drive gear on the following leg, it looked good, Iam told the motor has a safety clutch which caused the motor not to over heat, Iam wondering if I can upgrade the motor? dont know if I have a 5000 or 6500 lb landing gear the landing gear VMC900L-223103 on the following leg + gear box VMC940RB-204820

Thank you for all of the info! According to the part numbers you gave me you have Venture landing gear that uses a gearbox with the same dimensions as part # LG-179015. This gearbox is compatible with the Replacement Motor # LG-196308 which is rated for 6,500 lbs.

If you need to replace the motor control switch then you will also need part # LG-145236.

Attached are some dimensional photos of the replacement motor so you can use them to compare with what you currently have. Since your motor is able to extend the legs out some then it is either the motor is overheating like you mentioned or the screw for one of your legs is in need of replacement. If you can pinpoint the popping sound to the motor then the replacement motor is the correct fix. However, if you can't pinpoint the popping sound or you aren't sure where it is coming from it would be best to inspect the screws in both landing gear for any damage before investing in replacement parts.
