How To Prevent Trailer Hitch Pin Lock From Seizing

Question:

I purchased this lock from you and used it this winter in the state of PA. Put this on truck in October of 2018 and by February 2019 had to cut to remove. I could not get key in all the way at first and when i finally did i couldnt get the key to turn at all. I was wondering if you have any suggestions to make this more weatherproof so i do not have to cut it off my truck again?

I am sorry to hear about the issues you are having with the Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock part # e98880. The main way you are going to be able to preserve it is to make sure you keep the dust cover, Replacement Dust Cover for Deadbolt Hitch Lock part # e98923 over the keyhole. In addition to keeping the key hole covered I would A) spray some penetrating grease down in the keyhole every couple of months and B) insert the key and turn the lock core back and forth every couple of months as well. This will ensure you don't have to cut the hitch pin lock off the vehicle again. This is actually a common issue on most trailer hitch pin locks when they sit for months on end without any use.

I will however say that one of the most weather proof trailer hitch pin locks we offer is the Bulldog Lifelong Trailer Hitch Lock part # BD580402. This pin lock uses a ball-bearing design which will be less likely to seize up over time when compared to the above style.
