Trailer Hitch Options for a 2005 Audi Allroad Quattro

Question:

I have a 1999 Trail-Lite M-7190 Im trying to pull with my 05 Audi allroad quattro 2.7t. The trailer weight is 2475 lbs. The car weighs 4300 lbs and has 250 horsepower with fulltime awd. The Curt hitch for the car is a class 1 with 2000 lb rating. Is this hitch unsafe to use with this trailer? Addition to previous question: can using a class 2 draw bar make it safer to use? Can this ball mount increase the capacity of the C11166 hitch

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11166 as you mentioned is rated for a maximum trailer weight capacity up to 2,000 lbs therefore, I cannot recommend you use this to tow your 2,475 lb trailer. The maximum trailer weight capacity of this hitch cannot be increased by using a class II ball mount like the Curt Class II Euro Style Drawbar part # C45572 sadly.

Unfortunately, we do not have any option for you to tow over 2,000 lbs with your Audi as none of the trailer hitch manufactures we partner with offer a trailer hitch for your Audi that will allow you to tow more than 2,000 lbs. I took a look online and the vehicle appears to be rated up to 3,300 lbs so the weak point in this towing setup is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver.

If you choose to use this trailer hitch to carry more than recommended then you would just have to be okay with not having the hitch covered under warranty if anything were to go wrong. The only other option you have is to contact Audi to see if they offer a trailer hitch for your vehicle that will not limit your towing capacity to 2,000 lbs.

In addition to the trailer hitch you are also going to need a trailer wiring harness, the Hopkins Tail Light Converter Kit with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # HM48925 and a ball mount, the Curt Class II Drawbar (2,000 lbs Max) part # C45521. For a hitch ball we have the 1-7/8" Hitch Ball part # A-80 or the 2" Hitch Ball part # A-82.
