For your 1988 Chevy C3500 or K3500 there is a trailer hitch that may work for you, the Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Trailer Hitch # 41947.
The reason I say "may" is because this hitch will only fit if you have a 4-door Crew Cab with a frame that is 34" wide from outside to outside; it will also only fit if you have a standard bumper (NOT a rollpan bumper).
The Draw-Tite is a Class V hitch with a 2" receiver, 15,000 lbs of towing capacity and 1,600 lbs of tongue weight capacity. It is constructed from steel and comes with a lifetime warranty.
I have added a link to the written installation instructions of this hitch for you to take a look at.
