Recommended Lights for Aluminum Cargo Carrier on a 2012 Mercedes-Benz ML550

Question:

I need some led trailer lights I can mount to a hitch based cargo carrier Acc-500. Any recommendations would be helpful. Additionally, what would I need as an adaptor to go from the round trailer light plug from Mercedes to those led lights. Thanks.

What I recommend installing is the Optronics LED Trailer Tail Light # STL78RB on either side of your cargo carrier. Then for your connector use the Wesbar Wishbone Wiring Harness # 002402 with the Hopkins Adapter # 47345 so it is compatible with the 7-Way on your 2012 Mercedes-Benz ML550. The wiring configuration for the Wesbar wishbone is as follows:

White - ground wire
Yellow - left turn/brake light
Green - right turn/brake light
Brown - tail lights

For extra wiring use the Bonded 4 Wire # 16-4B-1 and single 16 Gauge Wire # 16-1-1 which are both sold by the foot. Since this will be exposed to the elements you will want to use Heat Shrink Butt Connectors # DW05744-10 as they will keep your connections safe from weather, puddles, mud, and other outside elements.

Please note that you will have to drill into your cargo carrier to mount these lights. I would try to use a rubber grommet or some other sealant between your hardware and the aluminum carrier so to help prevent any corrosion.
