Are Locking Plates Needed for Demco Hijacker 5th Wheel Hitch and MORryde Pin Box

Question:

I read that the Demco hitch is compatible with the MORryde pin box. It was stated that a different plate would be needed to prevent head rotating on pin. My Demco 6077 has two adjustable guides that sit on either side of the plate. Should I still change the plate or rely on these guides? I also notice a lot of twisting during cornering as head ratchets back. Is this acceptable?

The Demco Hijacker 5th Wheel Hitch, like # DM8550022 or # DM8550034, is compatible with a MORryde pin box; the correct part is going to be Demco Hijacker Autoslide Locking Plate for MOR/ryde Pin Boxes # DM6025.

The reason you need this locking plate is that it is going to stop your king pin from pivoting inside your Hijacker. The guides on your hitch you are currently talking about would not be enough to do what the locking plate does and prevent the rotation.

The twisting during cornering is likely the rotation not being locked out and is definitely something you want to avoid by using Locking Plate # DM6025.
