Recommended Trailer Hitch and 4-Bike Rack for a 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack

Hello. I would like to purchase this Thule 4-bike rack for our new Alltrack: TH9029XT It holds 4 bikes, but is not the swinging kind. Can you please recommend the appropriate hitch for the car? Also, I was considering for camping trips using a dual-hitch adapter to hold the bikes, but also pull a small trailer. Appreciate your recommendation on the correct hitch. Thanks.

The Thule Apex XT 4 Bike Rack part # TH9025XT is an excellent option for you. It provides three attachment points on each bike for maximum security and comes with an integrated cable lock for the bikes.

In order to use this bike rack to its fullest extent on your 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack, I recommend the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 306-X7315. This is currently the only hitch we have that will allow for 4 bikes to be carried on the back of your vehicle. The other two hitches we have for you are only Class I and the maximum number of bikes that can be used on a Class I hitch is two.

In order to carry this bike rack on the back of your vehicle while also towing a trailer I recommend using the MaxxTow Ball Mount w/ 2" Accessory Receiver part # MT70066. As long as the 1-5/8" drop is the correct amount for your trailer/vehicle then this ball mount will work well for you. I do recommend checking your vehicle's owner's manual for any towing specifications beforehand.
