Will Higher Rated Axles Give Trailer A Larger Capacity

Question:

7 ft by 16 ft trailer = Can I put heavier axles under my trailer so I can haul more weight? Thank you

The rating of the axles only determines the amount of weight the axles can bear; in regards to hauling more weight you are limited by the lowest-rated component.

For example, if your trailer had a GVWR of 6,000 lbs and you put a pair of the 3,500 lb Dexter Trailer Axle Beam # 7359765 on you would still be limited by the 6,000 lb GVWR of your trailer - you would not be able to haul the 7,000 lbs that the axles are rated for.

If your GVWR than your axle capacity you could upgrade your axles to meet that, but it is rare a trailer will have axles that are not rated to match or exceed your GVWR. So essentially you need to know your lowest-rated component and not exceed that capacity in regards to hauling weight.
