Troubleshooting Trailer 7-Way Connection Between 2004 Chevy 1500 and 2015 Ford F-150
Question:
Is the plug universal to fit a 2004 1500 Silverado and a 2015 Ford F-150. This plug is for a tandem accelerator trailer and doesn’t seem to work on the ford but does on Chevy

The Ford Replacement OEM Tow Package Wiring Harness, 7-Way # 118242 is the correct harness for certain Ford F-150 models from 1997 to 2004. It uses factory specific plugs and then connects to a US Car connector at the 7-way and that portion is universal yet the t-connector is not.
It sounds like you have a trailer that works on one and not the other and the issue with that situation is normally a ground issue on the trailer itself. Check the main ground near the coupler or battery and make sure it is bare metal to metal using some sand paper. Then check the ground connections at your trailer tail lights that may have a separate ground or may use the mounting hardware as a ground. Make sure this is also bare metal to metal.
If you are having issues with the vehicle side wiring connection there will be similarities and differences. For your 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 you can use the Reese Replacement 7-Way RV-Style Trailer Connector for Factory Tow Package # C58155 or the Chevy twist style # PK11916. The Curt # C58155 will work on your 2015 Ford F-150, but if you need the t-harness I recommend the Tekonsha # 118283.
